Who is John Moorhouse?
John Moorhouse is a retired dental implant surgeon, inveterate traveller, extreme sportsman and author of Adventures in Africa. He is married to Karen, has 2 daughters Natasha & Jessica married to Alan & Zac; 4 grandchildren Ewan, Rory, Lyle and 'Tilly; a stepdaughter Libbi & stepson Sam plus a surrogate son Sid married to Amie.
After 18 months’ hitch hiking and 10 years working in Malawi along with repeated trips to the continent to climb Toubkal and Kilimanjaro and run the Marathon des Sables, few people have John’s depth of experience of life in Africa.
A firm believer in the maxim 'Age is just a number' in 2016 at the age of 60 he became only the 37th person to climb the highest summit on each continent and ski the last degree to both poles.
In 2019 he completed the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge, just missing the Guinness world record for the oldest team of 4 to row across an ocean.
John & Karen
Together with his wife Karen they have enjoyed a multitude of adventures such as summiting Elbrus and Kilimanjaro, canoeing twice down the Yukon, biking over 8,000 miles around Australia including off road from Cairns to Broome and hiking 1,000 miles on the GR11 the length of the Pyrenees and carrying on to Santiago de Compostela on the Pilgrims trail.
Take a look at the Challenges page for an overview of what John and Karen have been up to ..... but the best place is to look through the annual newsletters.
